DISTANCE VOL LIBRE offers initiation tandem flights with highly
trained instructors certified for tandem instruction by the Canadian HangGliding
and Paragliding Association (HPAC). You can fly tandem on a paraglider, a hang
glider or an Ultralight trike.
Tandem initiation flights are accessible to all as it requires no prior training.
If you choose to free fly for a once in a lifetime experience, or to taste the
joy of flight just before you start your training, we’re here and welcome
you at Distance Vol Libre.
DISTANCE VOL LIBRE lets you try flying tandem paragliding. A paraglider
has a “parachute like” look to it, but the similarity is only in
the look. Instead of being designed to slow down a fall (chute), it’s made
to glide and soar and use thermals to climb in the air. Launch is from one
of the sites on Mont-Yamaska at an elevation of 1000 feet above the plains at
the foothill. The passenger is in a seated position in front of the instructor
sitting in back. Both passenger and instructor have their own harnesses and are
secured to the same glider. The goal of these flights is to discover the beauty
of free flying and even piloting a paraglider, all in the silence of the air
and with a panoramic view of Mont-Yamaska and the region.
Paragliders, if compared to hang gliders, are slower and fly between 20 km/h
and 50 km/h, with an equally good descent rate as on a hang glider. If weather
conditions permit, you can acheive important gains in altitude. Generally a paraglider
will fly as high and as long as a hang glider.

We also offer initiation flights on tandem hang
gliders.A hang glider is non-motorized
aeronef which looks a bit like a triangular kite. It is a stable and safe glider
which needs little strength. Flying in a prone position (forward), the instructor
and the passenger fly side-by-side in their individual harnesses. The goal on
an initiation flight is to have you discover the basics of free flying. You’ll
fly and enjoy the silence and beauty of Mont-Yamaska and the surroundings. Breathtaking!
A hang glider can fly as slow as 30 km/h and as fast as 120 km/m. If weather
conditions permit you can acheive important gains in altitude.

Ultralight trike or ULM (Ultra Light Motorized). A
ULM
is a high performance hang glider mounted on
a two-seater motorized trike. This aeronef permits you to rapidly climb to altitude
and fly around the Mont-Yamaska area. The average flying speed on a trike is
