A hang glider is a non-powered aircraft that looks like a kite in a triangular shape. Its flight is stable and secure and it moves at speeds ranging from 30 km / h and 120 km / h. The practice of gliding is primarily for perserverant people in good physical condition, because the training is relatively technical and steering of the wing requires a minimum of force.
The term comes from paragliding's origin: slope parachute. Although the aircraft at first glance resembles a parachute, it is not intended to slow a fall, but to hover in the sky and use lift to rise into the air. Paragliders fly more slowly than hang gliders, between 20 km / h and 50 km / h, but its rate of descent is as good as that of a hang glider wing. In general, you can stay in the air as long and as high up in hang gliding. The practice of paragliding is available to anyone, because the training and its management are less demanding than in hang gliding.
A paramotor is an aircraft with an engine and back equipement to support the pilot, which is attached a glider. The big advantage of paramotor ,its is great versatility in terms of take-offs places, providing a high degree of autonomy to the pilot. The important procedure for the take-off is to be facing the wind and have a good safe distance. The distance required for take-off is between 5 and 15 meters, while that required for landing is only 1 meter. However, it is not possible to take off anywhere: in some case, near cities or in certain areas can be prohibited. Paramotors are governed by the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs), as well as ultra-light motorized aircraft.
What are the weather conditions to take engage in free flight ?
First of all, one must know the wind speed. For the paraglider, the maximum permissible speed is about 30 KM/H. Hang gliding on the other hand, can tolerate winds up to 40 Km/H. In case of rain, all activities are canceled. If we were to cancel your appointment because of bad weather, we simply defer it to a later date for you.
For a tandem flight, anyone can try it! Small ones and olders ones are welcome to experience the joy of flying.
For those who want to practice this sport steadily, all physically and mentally healthy people can come to learn flying techniques. Paragliding is a sport that is accessible to all, because the training and its handling are not too demanding. As for the hang glider, as the training is more technical and that the pilot requires a minimum of force, it is for individuals that are in good physical condition.
What are the safety standards ?
Equipment manufacturers of free flight are subject to very high standards in security, which has consequences for the products once they have been repeatedly tested and approved: they are reliable, safe and sound. The security also depends on pilot training, as well as their decisions before and during the flight. It is therefore essential that the training is supervised by instructors in a profesional school ...

How much is a complete equipment ?
For example, the purchase of equipment (paragliding or hang gliding) Intermediate used in good condition will cost between $ 2500 and $ 4000 $. A powerful new equipment worth between $ 5500 and $ 7000 (paragliding or hang gliding). A paramotor equipment costs between $ 12 000 and 15 000 $.

How long will training take?
It depends mainly on your speed of progression, your availability and your chance against the weather.
A winch is a cabling system that allows you to raise the ground to 1000-2000 feet in the air. Then just dump the cable when the instructor indicates it by radio. This device is very effective for students at the start of training because it allows you to practice the techniques of approach and landing. The winch also allows students to make several flights in a short period of time, which increases the speed of progression of the student.
Is the practice of free flight is safe ?
With the evolution of the equipment and knowledge, the sport has become very safe. The material now undergoes strict certification tests and there are associations of free flight that regulate and supervise the teaching and practice of the sport.
Do we have an insurance ?
We have liability insurance for all customers (passengers who make initiation flights) and for students. On the other hand, certified pilots must have their own insurance to fly legaly on Canada's free fling sites. This insurance is available with the "hang gliding and paragliding association of Canada" on their web site at www.hpac.ca
Can we rent the equipement after our course ?
Unfortunately, free flying equipment is not available for rent in Quebec . However, we can find used equipment in good condition for almost all budgets.
How to choose between paragliding and hang gliding ?
For people who want to start full training, but do not know which aircraft best suits them, we suggest to try both types of flying in tandem to understand their feelings. In most cases, the choice comes naturally. To further guide you in your decision, here are the advantages and disadvantages for paragliding and hang gliding.
Learning paragliding is faster and easier than hang gliding. Paragliding has a great stability in flight and its flight speed is lower. It also needs less physical strength and coordination. The transport of the glider is more convenient than hang gliding because all the equipment comes in a simple backpack and its transport by air is not complicated for those who might want to travel.
Hang gliding is more maneuverable and faster than the paraglider. It is also possible to fly in stronger winds and more turbulent, which increases the chance to fly often. However, assembly and disassembly, is longer than for paragliding. Regarding transport, although it is easily transported on a car rack, its length of about 18 feet makes it more complicated to transport by plane.
How long can we fly? At what altitude can we fly? And how far can we go ?
Contrary to popular belief, in free flight, although we have no engine to propel us, we do not just go down until the ground. We use air movement and thermal dynamics to keep us in the air and we raise. Thus, we can easily spend hours in the air, up to clouds, which are located several thousand feet of altitude and travel hundreds of kilometers. Record altitude of more than 20,000 feet (6000 meters) were made, and distances of more than 700 km have been covered! In Quebec, the altitude record is about 10,000 feet and the distance record of 125 km
It is a cabling system with pulley to reach 50 km / h to 60 km / h. This device is designed to simulate opening emergency parachute before folding it.
